در مجموعه کتب عهد جدید، کتاب اعمال رسولان از اهمیت ویژه‌ای برخوردار است. این اهمیت را می‌توان در نکاتی همچون اطلاعاتی که درباره تأسیس و گسترش کلیسای اولیه مسیحی به لحاظ جغرافیایی و الهیاتی همراه با گزارشی از مأموریت‌های تبشیری رسولان ارائه می‌کند، و به‌ویژه نقشی که این داده‌ها در معرفی پولس رسول، تأیید شخصیت رسولانه او و تلاش‌های بی‌وقفه‌اش در لحظات بحرانی صدر مسیحیت و دفاع از پیام مسیح در برابر معارضان یهودی و غیریهودی دارد، بررسی و تحلیل نمود. در این راستا، کتاب اعمال رسولان، به مثابه حلقه ارتباط میان دو مجموعه «اناجیل» و «رسالات» پولس در سدۀ نخست به‌شمار می‌آید. افزون بر این، شبهات موجود در باب نویسنده این کتاب (لوقا) و حجیت و سبک نگارش او، و اتفاق‌نظر بر یکی‌بودن نویسنده دو کتاب اعمال و انجیل لوقا، و توالی و پیوستگی موضوعی آنها که نهایتاً این دو را ذیل عنوان «تاریخ لوقا» به منزله یک «کتاب مرجع» قرار می‌دهد، بحث و فحص می‌شود. در واقع، تبیین ویژگی‌های تاریخی، محتوایی و الهیاتی این کتاب در همسازی با بستر هلنیستی زمانه که سبب جایگاه خاص آن شده، مد نظر این مقاله‌است.
